About me

Mary Jackson Lee, LCSW
I am a psychotherapist with a private practice in Wheaton, IL. I work with adults and couples. My practice is same sex affirming. My clients enter therapy for a variety of reasons including depression, anxiety, relationship strain, divorce, loss and grief, job/career stress. In addition to these issues, I also work with women who are making the adjustment to motherhood including those women who are struggling with symptoms of Postpartum Depression/Anxiety, as well as depression/anxiety during pregnancy.

I hold a BA in Psychology from DePaul University (1991) and a MSW from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois/Chicago (1995). Much of my clinical experience has been in the multidisciplinary settings of hospitals including Northwestern Memorial, Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, Ravenswood Hospital and Del Amo Hospital in Torrance, CA. In addition to these settings I also worked for a national EAP firm providing individual and couples therapy.

I am a mother and wife with plenty of practical experience that adds to my ability to offer specific empathy, especially with my new and seasoned mothers. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist working with clients to learn about the patterns of thinking/beliefs that lead to behavior and feelings that we experience. I encourage my clients by reminding them that once they know better, they do better. I love working with self identified "thinkers" as they already have personal experiences with how their thinking has impacted their life thus far. I hope to use that powerful mind and thinking to move them in a more healthy and empowered direction.

I fully believe that you get out of therapy what you put into therapy. It can be hard work. You are accountable, you are heard, you are often challenged, but ultimately you know better and do better.
